Banshee, Female Spirit

Here are the pictures I took while I put on my Halloween make-up that I told you all I would share from this post. I love to get dressed up and I was fortunate enough to get invited to a costume party. I even made up a business card I handed out to everyone with a short description of what I was and a brief history of the Banshee. I always go overboard and I always go scary, that's my shtick and I have so much fun making myself up. I have another visual tutorial of my Swamp Zombie costume from some years back and will post it soon.

I didn't let my kid see me like this, it would freak him out!

So here it is... sleep tight!

Till next time... Happy Halloween!!

We've Been Adopted!

The boys - Thunder (r) and Lightning (l)

We've been adopted by two gray and white kittens. These two are not from the liter I talked about earlier in the summer, those little guys got moved by their momma and I never saw them again. These kittens came out from their hiding place and came up to our front door last week. We took them back, since we knew where the hiding place was (I still have poison ivy from finding it... haha) and they came back later that evening and came running when they heard our voices. They are adorable of course, and Asher is thrilled. I thought well, I could use some mousers outside so why not? So here I am wanting to bring them in now and thinking about how am I going to bring this up with A. the husband and B. the 18 year old princess cat, Glove. I've already named them, Thunder and Lightning. I'd say they are between 4-6 weeks old, or about there.

stealing hearts

awwwwww
It's love.
I was worried that Zoey, our dog, would hurt them so I've had them in a kennel outside while we were away this past weekend to the Smoky Mountains and discovered that they had escaped and apparently Zoey is not going to kill them... thankfully. She was scaring me before because she would pick them up with her mouth and carry them around kinda rough and also nudge them pretty hard knocking them down. She seems to want them on their back and them proceeds to nibble on them. Maybe she thinks they are her puppies? I've never had a mama dog, so I don't know how they act. I was told when we got her that she had had a litter of pups.
Zoey keeping a watchful eye on the kittens (and wondering if she's in trouble for being in chair!)

When I put them in the big dog size kennel, I had a cute little fuzzy bed and blanket for them and their own litter box with food and water all neat and tidy and they had it dirty, food everywhere walking in the liter box and then the food within 60 seconds flat. I've forgotten what it was like to have kittens. I've never had two at one time and man can they be little terrors... haha but they are so incredibly cute they are forgiven immediately. They are hungry all the time and very vocal about it. I can't get over how loud they are!
Being loud, but still cute
Well, so welcome our newest family members... Thunder and Lightning.

One year ago today

my angel now

One year ago today, my life ceased to exist as I knew it. One year ago today I lost my best friend, my confidante, my shoulder to cry, the one to laugh and remember with. One year ago today I lost my mother. One year ago today part of me died with her and it will never be back.

I'd like to say to the tears are not as frequent, but I'd be lying. So today I think of her and silently say a prayer and make a secret wish that God would let her return for just a moment to let me see her sweet face again and once more hear her voice and her arms around me... but it hasn't happened.

One year ago today I lost my mother to cancer and I will never be the same.

Busy and Spooky Week

Last week was a busy and fun one for me. My son and I made Halloween Cupcakes Thursday and then Friday we had Boo at the Zoo, where the kids dress up and collect treats from various vendors in a safe and fun setting. I dressed up too as a witch, a non scary witch that is.... hmpfff.... I love to do scary. AHHHHH but then Saturday night was MY NIGHT! I got to play dress up and attended an adults only Costume Party and had a blast as a very scary Banshee!

Boo at the Zoo

So speaking of costumes, my son who is four and a half wanted to be a black and white bunny rabbit much to my husbands dismay. He was hoping for something more male-ish like a cowboy or pirate. I figure who cares! If the kid wants to be a cuddly little rabbit then so be it. Of course the whole night everyone thought he was a cute little girl. Oh well. And wouldn't you know it, I totally spaced out and forgot my camera. I am notoriously late and unorganized (I'm working on it) and I hate it because it causes me much distress and things like forgetting to bring the camera. We were in such a hurry to get out the door I even forgot to take pictures of Asher and his buddy with their cute costumes on. Hopefully, my friend Amelia's pictures from her phone turn out nice and she shares them with me. At least this was kinda a trial run since it wasn't actually Halloween. I have to say he was a cute bunny. I got these poor little pictures from my phone, which isn't very good at photos but at least it's better than nothing.

I've also been painting my yard sale furniture and it has taken me quite a while since I do a little here and a little there. I will have the bookcase finished today. I've also decided to change my wall colors in my studio to a happy orangey color called Golden Berry. I think it will liven the room up and lighten it up too from the depressing slate blue color it is now. I picked up some fun purple and orange twinkle lights that are for Halloween but I plan to hang them in my studio for some dazzle all year round. I can't wait to get it all done and show it off to you all. But with a busy fall, it just takes time.

Ok, so here is my spooky "Banshee, female spirit" costume. I had so much fun creating this. I'll show you more of how I did it later.
Boo!

Kissy kissy and aha moments

Here's a little magnet I made with a cute phrase by Gale. It is 3 inches by 3 inches. It turned out pretty cute, I may make a bookmark with it and maybe a greeting card... who knows.

I'm rather disillusioned with the whole art show/craft show scene. I have a craft show this Saturday and I'm ready to bail. As a matter of fact I'm pretty sure I'm not going now. I feel like we're beating a dead horse here...  I don't know if it's the economy or just the general lack of interest but we (my partner and I) are tired of putting so much into our pieces and just not getting anything out of it, including sales. She's busy, I'm busy and nothing is getting my full attention.

It's a little bit of a relief to say it out loud and liberating. When it starts to feel like a burden, I guess it's just not right. I'll still keep my Artfire and Etsy shop going, and maybe even continue to add items but the shows are just not a viable way for us to sell it seems. I hope to concentrate on my son and spending more time with him as I know these precious years are fleeting. I don't want him to think that Mommy is always on the "puter" and not making things or spending time with him, so I'm going to make a change.

I still plan to blog, as this is an outlet for me and I've made such wonderful friendships with a lot of you. I really enjoy reading your blogs as well. And who knows, this may change in a year or so, I'm rather emotional at the moment so I can't seem to keep my mind made up but my soul feels lighter now that I've decided this and I don't like feeling yucky and not good enough.

So please, keep coming around... you guys are my only cheerleaders since I've lost my mother. Speaking of which the 20th of this month is the one year mark.

*long breath*

a long and lonely year. I miss her terribly and wonder will this pit in my stomach and tears running down my cheeks ever stop?

Yard Sale Finds

I had to share my treasures I found at yard sales last weekend. Now I've got the bug for yard sales again, to my husbands dismay... I came home with my van loaded. I went out with a mission to find things to help organize my art studio and I found quite a few things that will do nicely. I think the most I paid for anything was 5 bucks. Yeee ha!

Enjoy :)

A vignette of some of my pretties
A close up of a pretty roses dish. I love dishes with these romantic roses on them
I loved the lines of this tin candle holder (I think it's tin b/c its very light weight, not sure)
Pretty glass candy dish... it sparkles!
A sweet child's book of poems
Close up of wall hanging drawers that have a place to write contents on the pull, and a pretty frame
Little white organizer with a place to show off some photos

Now peek into my soon to be used new studio room for the big stuff like this great chair I got for $2
I'm thinking of painting this chair antique white to lighten it up in that room. Ample room for my tush.
Now for the big storage solution for $5! Will look tons better with that antiquey looking white paint.
The bookcase pulls out like a secretary. I think this is a home made job. It's a little rough but will look good painted.
One last picture of happiness...
Make it a terrific day!

Frida... A Great Movie and artist

Last night I watched for the first time Frida, "A biography of artist Frida Kahlo, who channeled the pain of a crippling injury and her tempestuous marriage into her work".

I was not familiar with her work and am now a fan. That woman went through tremendous pain, emotionally and physically. The film itself is visually stunning with bright colors, paintings, thoughts and visions illustrated beautifully throughout the movie.  I just adore Frida's costumes through the whole thing, such bright and vivid fabrics and gorgeous prints not to mention the most romantic looking underthings and gowns.

Salma Hayek did such a wonderful job with this role. I truly felt the thoughts and emotions of her and was moved to tears quite a few times. If you haven't seen this movie yet, I highly recommend it. It is a biography and more so a love story.
