Gettin' Spooked!

Yikes! What was that?!

Alright, so I know I'm not the only scary movie lover here and some of you may know this about me, that I love all things scary... but... I have managed to spook myself lately. I'm talking about the look in the closets with a flashlight if you could but you can't cause you're too scared spooked. The kinda spooked where you hurry up and get in bed and cover up even your head kinda spooked! It started with last weekend on date night with the hubby and we went to see my pick.. Insidious. Great movie by the way... a real jumper. If you don't jump throughout the whole thing then go straight to the hospital because you may not have a pulse.

I thought of it to be a different take on Poltergeist, which is one of my all time favorites. I love paranormal scary, not chop em up gory movies. So anyway, fast forward to the other night and I'm watching some of my fun stuff that I have to wait til after Asher's in bed for. I record anything scary that I know of. It just so happened that a couple of the shows I like are airing new episodes so I was excited. Now normally, My Ghost Story on the Bio channel may give you a shiver or two, but this last episode freaked me out and I cannot get it out of my mind. The link takes you to where you can watch full episodes, but they are from last season I think. The episode I'm talking about isn't on there.

So this episode starts with a woman living alone and I can't remember the reason why she starts recording herself sleeping, but she does and what she finds on her recording blows my mind. Something shows up on camera that looks like a cross between a cat and a monkey only very blurry jumping up on her bed near her head and disappearing under her covers! It also shows something walking across her bed, just the footsteps, not anything making the footsteps! I cannot believe I haven't seen this covered more somewhere else or someone trying to de-bunk it. You guys have got to see this clip, I'll keep looking for it.

UPDATE: I found the clip, go here: Creepy Sleep

It scared the bejezzus outta me. Of course, I go to sleep by myself since my husband is at work when I finally crash. I won't say what shift he's working so hopefully as to not be killed. I've even thought of sleeping with Asher! haha now that is bad. So now, I'm hearing things I've never noticed before and seeing things out of the corner of my eyes and general spooky stuff. I've always had a feeling of being watched as I sit on my couch from the stairs. I don't know what it is but very often I am looking that way. I sometimes try to ignore something that I think is trying to get my attention. You all will think I'm crazy, but I think my house is haunted at times. After watching that episode, I went into my bedroom to go to sleep and a light on our digital thermostat came on by itself as I walked by it! Just so you know, this is not normal and it does not do that even when it is kicking on.  I used to use my cat as a gauge but now she is so old and deaf she can't hear me call her name! Poor Glove. So I am left to my own devices. And hey, I just thought of something, Glove used to always sleep with me up until about 2 weeks ago and now she won't come in my room... hmmmm. As you can tell, I get a little carried away.

Speaking of devices, my girlfriend and I were talking about buying a digital recorder because we are going to do a tour of the Waverly Hills Sanitorium in July! We tried to get a 4 hour tour on Good Friday but they are all booked up. So we have to do a 8 hour tour in July! 8 hours! I'm not so sure about 8 hours, but it's better than waiting til next year. I will keep you all updated with that... ooooooooo! haha  I'm excited! and a little spooked ;)

Tell me your spooky stories!! Or blog about one and let me know so I can go read it! Or if you know of a Bed and Breakfast that offers haunted stays, I'd love to know of them. More on spooky stuff that's happened to me later. (There's actually quite a bit!)

Have a spooky night!

  2. Here's something for ya... There's something not...right in our back yard. Something out there that we can't see. But our cats know it's there. There's one in particular, well read my post about it (http://jewelry-by-jp.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html). I have a guardian.

  3. Here's one for you (I too have a lot :)) When I was living in Savannah, GA- home to a LOT of hauntings, I was up late one night working on homework. (we lived in one of those three story rail houses on the second and third floor- the third floor opened to a rooftop balcony) All of my roomies were out- it was just me and the radio. I heard what sounded like heavy footsteps running over my head- it startled me, because I KNEW I was alone.....I heard it several more times and finally just went to bed so I could stop thinking about it.
A couple weeks later, I was at a party and folks were talking about local haunted houses. I said nothing but started listening more closely. It turns out, in the 1930's a woman jumped off the roof my house committing suicide, something about a bad breakup- anyway, they say she never really left the house......spooky huh. Only one of my 4 roomates ever heard it too- but I was glad that at least one did!

But my husband works till 1:00 in the morning, so I can't watch anyting too scary at night, seriously--I get so scared. The movie Paranormal Activity still bothers me.
Can't wait to hear about the sanitorium!

  5. Here's one for you. I have a shelf of music boxes. I haven't "played them" in ages but three times in the past year 1 of them will just start playing. Like fully wound up playing. It usually plays for about a minute and a half before it stops. Its happened twice when I've been home alone and it scared me so bad the first time I actually left the house!

  7. Love this post!!! I'm really into anything spooky!! Love the movies the shows the stories!!! But I'm also a big scardy cat! Have you watched Paranormal Activity 1 and 2? Those scared the pants off me!!!
My brother lives in a very old house in Wales, like 100s of years old and they have told us about strange noises footsteps in the house when they are alone. Someone coming down the stairs. I think the story that creeped me out the most was when he said he was watching tele in the living room and saw his girlfriend doing stuff in the kitchen from the corner of his eye, as usual but then suddenly from the other door at the end of the room his girlfriend actually walked in. It wasn't her at all in the kitchen. And there were no other doors to it so she couldn't have been there she was in fact upstairs!! That creeped me out! :0)

Oh and in answer to your question on my last post. Yes it does get really really cold where I live. In the winter it can get as low as -9c in the night and only up to 2c in the day. But in the summer we can also get over 40c. We're right in the mountains but I do love the change in seasons :0)

  8. Ok - that was scary! Sounds a bit like that film that came out - Paranormal Activity. There are some things you just don't want to know, I guess. I used to have horrible nightmares where I'd wake up only to see a face staring back at me. Of course, my blood-curdling screams would send my hubby barreling upstairs to see what was wrong. One time, I was having a nightmare about someone chasing me, and my hubby tried to wake me up. I guess I was semi-conscious or something because I can remember hearing his voice like through an echo chamber. When I finally "woke" up - I was in the bathroom - and developed black and blue marks from slamming the door into my knees. Both of my knees were skinned from crawling the rugs.

Anyhow, enough of my psychoses. LOL If you google New Hope, PA - you will find that it is reportedly the most haunted town in the US. We had booked a room in a hotel there - but changed it when I read it was actually THE most haunted place in town. LOL Yes - I am a chicken. When I go on vacation, I want to relax!!! Theresa

  10. Are you serious? A sanitorium tour? *shiver*

I think I've stayed in a few haunted places. My first flat (apartment) was in a converted church, just over the road from where I am now actually. One day while brushing my hair in the mirror this mans figure appeared behind my shoulder in the reflection, like DIRECTLY behind me. I spun, round, spun back. Nothing. Am shaking like mad by that point. Shortly after the flat started getting these really awful smells all throughout. Had the landlord in, he couldn't find anything, he got the drains people in who went down the drains outside, nothing. No blockages... I moved shortly after.

When we lived in my parents house, my sister was terrible for getting up for school. My Mum used to yell and yell and yell but she'd just snooze on. This one day Mum was getting really exasperated and my sis came flying downstairs as white as a sheet. She said just as Mum had yelled "this is the LAST time I'm calling" someone or something had grabbed her by the hair and banged her head on the wall. My Mum said it was our Nan angry at sis ignoring Mum. We never met Nan, she died before we were born.

The house I live in now, we've always had trouble with our hallway lights. They are very temperamental. I get that prickly feeling on my neck going up and down the stairs and there is often a floral scent - I only wear fruity or vanilla scents... we went to one of those one day medium meetings for a laugh one day. She told me there is a particular area in our house that I 'feel' something. I was not to worry, it was just a previous resident who didn't know she had to move on. BUt that she is friendly. Her name is Ivy and she is elderly. She said sometimes she'll move stuff because, she thinks she still lives here. Now stuff has been getting lost, like you'll put it down and it just goes. So this was all a bit "whoa" However now, if anything goes missing we just say " come on Ivy, help us out. Can we have it back now please" and sure enough we usually find it quite quickly... all a load of cobblers? I dunno but am not so freaked out about my hallway now.

  11. I had to come back to share. I just finished up teaching for the night. As I was teaching my last student, a high schooler, she stopped, mid song and says, "I smell perfume" I said, "Yep, its not me, and I've been smelling it for a few minutes...if that music box goes off, lesson over!"
