This past Sunday afternoon I had the TV on while I was puttering in the kitchen. I had the OWN channel on (Oprah Winfrey Network), and I have to admit I usually don't have her channel on much, I really don't watch TV much period it's just on making noise in the background.
I guess we do register what we hear in the background because I pretty much stopped all I was doing to watch this program even though I had just caught about the last 20 minutes of it. It was Super Soul Sunday which I hadn't heard of before and Oprah was talking with this man that I had never heard of named Dr. Wayne Dyer. What an enlightenment. I was entranced and I wanted to hear more.
What this man was talking about, how he spoke, his demeanor and all of what he was saying struck such a chord with me. I was enthralled. Before I knew it the show was over and as I was going over what I had heard in my mind, the next program came on. It was a movie with Dr. Dyer in it as himself called The Shift. Wow. I watched with full attention. I even would pause the show and take notes. Tears streamed down my cheeks through much of the show, I'm not sure why. Maybe because I identified so much with the mother in this story. I know I was deeply touched by what he was sharing. I am emotional now just remembering it and writing this.
I find myself wanting to learn more and read or hear more of what he is teaching. If you are like me and had never heard of Dr. Dyer see his website here. He is a renowned author and speaker in the field of self-development. His newest book is Wishes Fulfilled, Mastering the Art of Manifesting. He has many many more.
I live with a lot of negativity around me, as many do, but I think often of choosing to be happy and after seeing these programs I know I'm on to something. What he has to say, if you listen, may just change your life. I think that it is changing my life and I plan to run with it.
thank you for sharing that Jaime....I too checked out his site. I have heard him speak before. And for the past several years I have tried to do just that. 'Choose to be happy' for the life I have right now is good, pretty wonderful actually. I have a man who loves and cares for me deeply. Amazing kids and family to support me. Although at times, we all get consumed by the negativity around us...and what I like to call 'such is life.' I try to get my mind back to focusing on the positive. And to manifest my dreams for my life and how my mind sees it...I am on the right path. God & the universe have put on this path, to learn, to listen, to be silent and to do! Thank you so much for sharing this...much blessings to you and yours!
ReplyDeletePoetic Pisces, I'm so glad for you that your life is good right now and you are on the right path. I believe that even during difficult times it's even more important to choose to be happy. It's not easy at first, but it feels so good to choose to be happy and joyful and focus on the positive, even if the only positive thing you can think of is that God let you wake up one more morning! It sucks way too much energy from us to keep that cloud over our head. I like to surround myself with uplifting positive souls like yourself. Thank you for sharing your thoughts :) ~Jaime
DeleteCongrats on finding what works for you. With me it's called saying my prayers every morning and thanking God for everything he has done for us. I go by that and that continue the day being grateful and trying to do something good for someone else. That always works for me.
ReplyDeleteAnd that is what Dr. Dyer teaches as well. He is not offering an alternative to God. In fact in the movie, he quoted Jesus many times and talks of God through out. I hope it didn't sound like he was offering some different kind of religion and I had drank the Kool-Aid because he is not and I did not! Ha ha... He is just so positive and talks about leaving behind the ego, an acronym for which he calls it "edging God out" and pushing forward more to serve. Something else I wrote down from the movie was "ambition is transformed into purpose". Really made me think.
DeleteI'm glad you resonate with the teachings of Dr. Dyer. Me too. I've been one of his followers for some time and have a couple of his books. I've been known to sit glued to public television as Dr. Dyer spoke, taking notes and having many aha moments! :)
ReplyDeleteI know! I've got to learn more of his teachings. He seems like a remarkable man and I just love what he has to say and how he says it. I wish the whole world would listen!!
DeleteWOW!! Sounds really interesting,i will definitely have to see what he is about!!
ReplyDeleteI thought it was fascinating and just soooo uplifting. Let me know what you think if you check him out.
DeleteSounds wonderful, Jaime! Fighting the negative can be difficult, but finding your inner self is so rewarding.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Yes Lisa, you are so right!
DeleteI have watched him on PBS, he is fascinating :)
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing when something we least expect to move us (having the TV on in the background) can lead us to a spiritual awareness :)
Have a lovely day, cheers, T. :)
OH you said it T. I am a religious person and have always been so, being raised in a Pentecostal church. But my spiritual self is awakening as I get older and I am embracing it. I feel like turning 40 (2 years ago) has changed my life.
DeleteHello Jaime I am a firm believer in one meets the teacher when one is ready to learn what he/she has to teach. I am an old lady and have read much by Dr. Dyer. He is indeed a great teacher. That is why I was lead to your blog. I am a wanna be artist. Have a few years and projects in my faerie pack but always willing to learn. Blessings. Thanks for visiting.
ReplyDeleteQMM
Hi QMM, I'm so glad you came to visit. Please don't ever call yourself a wanna be artist. You ARE an artist. You create art, therefore you are an artist. I think I remember Dr. Dyer talking of this. Don't let what anyone else thinks of you dictate what you are.
DeleteWhen we look for justification or even admiration in the things we do, that is the ego. We should do things for the shear pleasure it brings us and not worry what other labels people put on us.
You keep up your beautiful artwork Queen... you Are an artist.
xx Jaime
Jaime, what you just said to Queen made my eyes well up with tears. You are such a lovely young woman and I know your Mom would be so proud of you.
ReplyDeleteLove,
LuLu~*xoxo
Awww! Thank you LuLu! You are so sweet, I really appreciate your comment :)
DeleteHi Jamie, thank you for your kind words about my art. I really enjoyed reading your post. I sometimes have to eliminate people from my life because they are very negative in how they talk of the world in general and individual people too. It drags me down. So you are on the right track. I am grateful all God has given me. He is the one who knows what we really need. We can all help each other by being encouraging and helpful and happy when one of us is successful in our endeavors. I love all your tangles.
ReplyDeleteI know just what you mean about staying away from negative people. They are so draining, emotionally and creatively. I really agree with what you about being encouraging of one another and happy for one another. Thank you for visiting and sharing your thoughts.
DeleteThanks for stopping in at Weedy Acres. I've been looking at your creative work and you have some wonderful pieces. Will be checking back.
ReplyDeleteI was familiar with Wayne Dyer through the bookstore - he has many books. I'm glad that you found him so helpful - we all need to find something that we can truly connect with so we can feel whole. :) Thank you for sharing what an impact he made on you. :)
ReplyDeleteI discovered good old Wayne in the 80's and he is an interesting guy. Many of his teachings are very wise and comforting. He gives you the "illusion" that you are "in control" of a lot of aspects of your life. I did take a lot of his teachings to heart and listen to his lectures on the public television channel. For all his knowledge, his personal life has been rocky, but we can't control everything! He is a good one to listen to when negativity creeps in!!
