So you guys saw my sketch of the angel wrapping her wings around a woman yesterday. Today I worked a little more on it, ok quite a bit more on it and now I think I've over worked it! Grrrr! I hate it when I do that. I questioned before whether I should have the woman in there and decided to try to make a go of it. (I'm drawing this for one of the projects Gale and I am working on. She wrote an angel poem and wanted to see something like this for it.)
I was pretty happy with it at first and now, it's kinda slid down hill. Through the magic of Photoshop, happily I can possibly fix this for the use it was intended if I had drawn her a tad smaller. My new scanner won't get all of her in it! Darn it! Plus, I not only overworked it, I might has well drawn a giant bulls eye on the one thing I wanted to downplay and that was the woman. I put her in a bright blue sweater of all things!!!!! What was I thinking? I was going for a subtle black and white version at first and then wammo! I get out my colored pencils and go temporarily insane, all the while trying to fix her into looking not so shoddy. Abort mission.
The funny thing is, all the while I'm doing this and making mistakes I'm thinking in my head *command z*... dang! not in real life it won't. I'm kinda crazy like that. Have you ever been doing something like... I don't know... say driving... and you make a wrong turn and think *command z* ? You know you've been working on the computer too long when.... haha
I'm starting to scare myself. Maybe I need some downtime. I think I'll go pour a glass of decaf diet coke, cozy up with my cat and watch my last 2 recorded episodes of The Vampire Diaries and look at some man candy. I like the bad brother, he's just so darn cute.
G'nite friends.
lol!! i feel you girl, i totally feel you ... i'm at this stage now too. brains overfried. that's why i've been MIA in your last few posts :) if you had even noticed :) i'm making things independently of what my brain is telling me to make ... if that makes any sense. yes ... you're in need of downtime. go relax, i would too :) see you in a couple. :) stay cool my lady!
ReplyDeleteOf course I've noticed Luthien! I miss your comments :)
ReplyDeleteThe good side of this is that you are at least WORKING on something... me? Haven't been in the painting studio in two weeks, partly because of the weather, partly because of lack of motivation. I do like the angel (but I want to see arms as well as wings), not very fond of the woman figure... maybe the angel could hold something metaphorical... or a small town or village... sounds strange, I know, but I guess I'm thinking in terms of the whole Haiti thing and how these natural disasters take out entire communities.
ReplyDeleteCute post...think it made us all chuckle, as we've all done things very similar. We want to embellish, make it better, guild the lily. And then it becomes; "OMG ! What HAVE I done?" Where is that "Go Back button" when I need it ?
ReplyDeleteReally love the start of this piece with just the angel and using just shades of black and white you gave her an ethereal quality. Her wings are amazing ! It is easy to see where you were trying to go with this by adding the weeping woman...hope you manage to salvage it.
I found your blog by way of another blog, it was just a chance happening...saw your comment and curiosity set in. Glad I swung by to take a peek. Hope you don't mind having a new follower, as I'm following you now. If you'd like to check out my blog you are most welcomed to visit. :)
Hey Jaime, don't beat yourself up. You have a great start and I love the pop, even if it wasn't what you were going for maybe that is where your focus should be ????? You could just put a soft white gouche over it maybe that might lighten it but personally, I like it, I love the contrast of their hair, I love the Angels wings, you have a piece that is working, take a deep breathe and come back to it thru new eyes (I know I am a little slow commenting on this post )
ReplyDeleteHope all goes well, T.
Hahaha, made me laugh! I do like the angel, though. Maybe keep working more with just her? A bright blue sweater...hmmm...cashmere or acrylic?
ReplyDeleteThis is really pretty! I know what you mean about getting frustrated sometimes when painting. It does work though when you walk away and look at it with a new eye. I like it as it is. The blue makes the woman stand out.
ReplyDeleteJaime, you are being way too hard on yourself...ok so it doesn't fit your original vision...personally, I see nothing wrong with the work you have done and would not discount it entirely! There's a reason you chose that blue color....lol
ReplyDeleteyou guys are so uplifting! I am doing as T and many of you suggest. I'm stepping away from it for a short time. (I haven't even looked at since I posted it Tues, and today it's Friday)
ReplyDeleteThank you all!
I think it looks pretty, but you can always go over the blue sweater with a black colored pencil and if they are prismacolors you can use the white too to create a cool kinda gray that would be more subtle. The angel herself looks really awesome! I love her hair and her wings!
ReplyDeleteI love your drawings no matter what..but I know what you mean when an I too have 'crossed that line' the wonderful thing about the medium i use in tassel is that i can take it apart and redo...not that i have to do that much (HA!!)
ReplyDeleteBlessings
